In the summer of 2011 members of the LGBT+ community attempted, for the first time in Serbian history, to organize the Pride parade under the slogan ‘’ There is place for everybody’’. What came out of it was a genuine lynch in the center of the capital city of the new democratic Serbia, surrounded by the police. In the summer of 2017, the first openly gay Prime minister was appointed. This represented a big step in the recognition of human and civil rights of the LGBT+ community but – this discussion will unravel what comes after that but and that is the factual state of these rights in Serbia.

Mesto: Jugoslovenska Kinoteka

Location

Adresa: Uzun Mirkova 1, Beograd

Description

The exhibition on the occasion of the regional Heartefact Competition for Tolerance Design will showcase the best works of young artists and design contestants. Tolerance is respect, acceptance and gratitude for the very rich and diverse culture of our time, as well as all forms of expression and perception of what it means “to be human”. Today, it seems that is more than ever necessary to emphasize all the aspects that are necessary for such a turbulent and multicultural society to be able to live in harmony at all. Tolerance is created by a society in which each individual feels like he is a worthy and important member and thus contributes to its progress. To make it easier and more effective to affirm a very important message that the notion of tolerance carries, Heartefact wants to create a symbol, more precisely a logo of tolerance, that would communicate clearly with everyone and that would point to all the qualities of this practice. Jury composed of: H.E. Julia Feeney (Australian Ambassador), Mirko Ilić (graphic designer), Mia David (curator and scenographer), Robert Čoban and Ivan Tasovac (director of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra) will open an exhibition of the best proposals for Tolerance Symbols and announce the winner of the competition.
